Directions to Square Stone Farm
FROM NEW YORK CITY AND NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY: Make your best choice of turnpike, tunnel or bridge to get to Interstate 78. Take 78 west to exit 15 (Clinton). At the end of the ramp, make a left turn to go under the highway. This is Hunterdon County route 513. Follow 513 approximately 4 miles to Pittstown; at the traffic signal, 513 makes a soft right turn. Continue on 513 for approximately 7.5 miles to Frenchtown. (Enjoy the scenery!) At the blinking light in town, turn left onto Kingwood Avenue, which is State Route 12. Drive up the hill about 1 mile. Square Stone Farm is at the top of the hill, on the right. Scroll down for mass transit info.
FROM CENTRAL NEW JERSEY: Find your way to Interstate 287. Take 287 to US Route 22 West. Follow 22 approximately 3 miles to US Route 202. Follow 202 south, using the Somerville Circle overpass, and continue on approximately 13.5 miles to Flemington. At the first traffic circle, take the exit for State Route 12. Follow 12 around the second circle, and around the third as well. (Don’t get dizzy!) Square Stone Farm is 9 miles distant on the left side of 12; or, about 1 mile west of the Baptistown traffic signal. ALTERNATE: Take 287 to 78 west; follow directions as noted for NYC, above.
FROM PHILADELPHIA: The fast way – Grab Interstate 95 north, crossing the Delaware and immediately exiting onto State Route 29. Take 29 north for 25 miles, following the river through Lambertville, Stockton and then into Frenchtown. In Frenchtown, the highway ends and becomes Trenton Avenue. Continue north on Trenton Avenue until it terminates at Bridge Street, then turn right. After fifty feet (and the oft-photographed Angle) Bridge Street becomes Race Street. Continue on Race one block to the blinking light. Turn right onto Kingwood Avenue, which is State Route 12. Drive up the hill about 1 mile. Square Stone Farm is at the top of the hill, on the right. The slow way – Take either State Route 232 north to New Hope or 611 to Doylestown, then US 202 to New Hope. Find State Route 32 along the Pennsy side of the Delaware River, continuing north 16 miles until you reach the Frenchtown-Uhlerstown Bridge. Cross the bridge onto Bridge Street in Frenchtown, continuing to Race Street as noted above. Please be aware that while 32 is more scenic and offers a more intimate contact with the Keystone State’s river towns, the road is more challenging to drive than 29 and may be subject to closure after periods of exceptional weather.
FROM THE LEHIGH VALLEY: Find your way to PA State Highway 412 in Bethlehem or Hellertown. Follow 412 (Durham Road) straight until it becomes PA 212. Follow 212 about 6 miles until you meet PA 611 near the Delaware River. Take 611 south about 1.8 miles until you reach State Highway 32. Veer left onto 32 and continue south about 8 miles to the Frenchtown-Uhlerstown Bridge. Cross the bridge onto Bridge Street in Frenchtown, continuing to Race Street as noted in the Philly directions above.
BY MASS TRANSIT (and BICYCLE): Check out Trans-Bridge Lines’ motorcoach service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City at http://www.transbridgelines.com/sched_frenchny.htm . Trans-Bridge also operates buses from the Lehigh Valley area and Doylestown, PA to Frenchtown. The bus stop is at Front and Bridge Streets (at the waterfront) in Frenchtown and buses drive past, but will not stop, at the farm. The farm is approximately 1.5 miles from the bus stop. A bike lane has been constructed along Route 12 within the Borough of Frenchtown and bicycling is a popular pastime around town. However, the highway narrows as it ascends the valley and no lane or sidewalk is available for the ¾ mile ascent (which incorporates a 220 foot vertical elevation change) to the farm. Nevertheless many intrepid bicyclists make the ride up route 12 and around the area.
